24.1 Banu al-Mustaliq
For some time the Muslims enjoyed peace, except for a few raids by envious or covetous tribes. When news came that Banu Al-Mustaliq were making preparations for war, Mohamed took the initiative and went to meet the enemy before they were ready. It was a minor battle in which the Muslims were victorious, but on the return journey a hired man of Umar ibn Al-Khattab's quarrelled over precedence to the water with a man from Al-Khazraj. The man cried, "Help, help, people of Al-Khazraj!" In answer, Umar's man cried, "Help, help, Emigrants!" |
